You are right to bring up the often unsanitary conditions and processes present in the food industry. I think the problem is in the whole mass-production idea. I think it reduces animals to life-less products and consumers to dollar signs rather than humans. In short, it reduces the “circle of Life” to a lifeless, mechanized assembly line. When profit is the driving force, life from chicken to factory farm worker to customer is expendable. Perhaps if any respect for life were injected into this process, the food industry would be less harmful.
